The original founding of our congregation dates back to 1879 under the name of Buchanan Methodist Episcopal Church of the South at a neighboring property just across the street from our current location.
The original church burned in the Fall of 1888 and a new sanctuary was reconstructed in 1908 as it currently stands, today. In 1939, the church reconciled and was renamed Buchanan Methodist Church until the merger with the United Brethren in 1968 where it became Buchanan United Methodist Church.
Around this time, the addition of the downstairs fellowship hall and upstairs classrooms were joined to the back of the sanctuary building.
The congregation unanimously voted in November of 2023 to leave the United Methodist Conference and was then renamed, once again, to Buchanan Methodist Church.
The sanctuary building can be seen in the background of this image from the late 1930s or early 1940s courtesy of the Haralson County Historical Society.
